Suze's grade is in...

How did we do with our "How Am I Doing?" Segment ?

Our segment aired Saturday night (4/30/11) on The Suze Orman Show on CNBC.  Suze went over the details of our situation and handed out her grade:

First of all, thanks to all of you for your support, RT's, and well wishes on my little segment.  It was fun and I'm grateful to Suze for taking the time to provide us with good, objective feedback.  Now it's time to work on the plan... our way to an A.  Thanks, Suze!

Hey Brian, great stuff! Congrats, really enjoyed the segment. Getting a B+ from Suze has got to be really reassuring, and I'm sure her improvement points were duly noted. From an audience perspective I can say that the entire segment was very informative, and it clarified the importance of financial awareness. For me especially, as a recent college grad with a relatively new IRA and no children yet, I see the importance of planning ahead and being aware. Many people are probably a bit hesitant to see exactly where they stand, content with not knowing rather than facing the possibility that they (or their future) might be in bad shape. Again, congrats and thanks for sharing!

Hi Ryan, thanks for your thoughtful comment. We had to work through the resistance of putting everything financial OUT THERE but it was worth it. Too many people have trouble breaking through their own limitations on what they're willing to confront honestly to make good financial discussions. And I'm not talking about having to be comfortable with bearing your soul on national TV.

You are in a great spot. Start saving NOW, make it work in the budget somehow because you will be grateful later. Any retirement we have, Suze said, "if you didn't save anything more, you would have $1.9 when you retire." We're only 42... is because I saved a lot EARLY. No way to get around time value of money!! Good luck. Keep in touch. Let me know if I can do anything to help! B
